Bradley Chalker is the oldest boy in the class. He sits alone, doesn't have any friends, doesn't do his work and tells lies all of the time. He is horrid! The school employs a counsellor who works with Bradley and he begins to see that he needs to believe in himself before other people are willing to give him a chance. Excellent writing from Louis Sachar. Boys and girls will really be able to relate to the classic description of the school bully and it might help them to think a little more about the person underneath.
